Shara is Licensed Professional Counselor and School Counselor. She earned her Bachelors Degree from Texas A&M University in Speech Communication in 2002. She earned her Masters Degree in Counseling from Sam Houston State University in 2012. She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State in 2018. She became a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) in 2021 and earned her Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) license in 2023. She has been in Education for 20 years and worked in two large group practices for three years before opening Carry On Counseling.
She has worked as a School Counselor at every school level: Elementary, middle school, junior high and high school. Currently, Shara serves as a High School Counselor and sees clients in private practice in the evenings. She has experience working with children and teenagers from age 6 through 18 in the school setting and in private practice. She has experience counseling college students and adults of all ages in private practice. She also has experience as a Christian counselor and has been the leader/facilitator of a Divorce Care support group.
Shara is currently in the process of becoming trained in EMDR therapy (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy), which is a proven therapeutic method to help people overcome past trauma and distressing memories that are impacting their current lives. EMDR is a fantastic therpeutic method that can help people reprocess memories that may be holding them back from experiences healing and moving forward in their lives. Shara is very passionate about helping people who have been through difficult things to find hope, healing and be able to carry on.
Shara has had many life experiences, which allow her to connect with her clients and develop a strong therapeutic relationship. She has personally been through divorce and remarriage, and is also a child of divorce. She is remarried, and is a proud mother and stepmother to four daughters total, two of which are biological daughters and two bonus daughters. Shara and her husband have raised their children in a blended family for the past 12 years.
Shara believes that sometimes we all need a helping hand to get through our struggles and that good counseling can help people rediscover themselves, help her client's family's learn how to communicate better and have stronger relationships, find happiness and learn to live again after going through difficult times. She offers an understanding, genuine, kind, warm, compassionate, non-judgmental approach with her clients.
Shara has learned how to carry on despite many difficulties in life and feels the Lord has called and equipped her to help others learn how to carry on as well.
